In 2021, Mike was looking to source some quality pinot noir but was shit-out-of-luck. Jeremy suggested that Mike take a parcel of shiraz grown from one of Tasmania’s northern most vineyards in the upper Tamar Valley.

Mike gets to embrace his heritage by making one of Italy’s most celebrated grape varieties. Sangiovese was one of Australia’s original alternative varieties with plantings dating back to 1970’s.

A small parcel of Tempranillo was transplanted on our Lovedale Road property from a friend’s vineyard in 2018. Transplanting is not common practice in viticulture, and certainly not the style of transplanting that involves the back of a ute and some precariously placed occy straps.

Merlot was one of the first varieties we planted on our Lovedale Road (LDR) vineyard in the early 90’s. The LDR Vineyard was a former cattle grazing property, before it was regenerated by Joss and Anna De Iuliis. Merlot is a favourite of Joss’s and so Mike makes it to keep his dad happy.

A trip to Abruzzo in 2022, inspired Mike to pay homage to winemaking of the region and so, the release of the 2023 Single Vineyard Pecorino marks a new stylistic direction for our pecorino.
