De Iuliis Shiraz 2020, Hunter Valley, AUD $25
Mike De Iuliis and his team have somehow come up with a red from the disastrous Hunter smoke-affected vintage of 2020, and it’s a beauty.
The colour is deep, dense red-purple and there are reserved aromas of blackberry, earth and a twist of black pepper, the palate juicy at its core with lovely sweet ripe fruit backed by fine tannins that add savouriness. A delicious shiraz, medium to full-bodied and well-structured, to drink young or age. And no sign of smoke taint. (Screwcap)
