Introducing our spring staff picks! We rounded the team up and asked them what they can’t wait to crack open as we head into a new season, then packaged them up for you to enjoy. This mixed pack runs the gamut of white, pink and red, so there’s something for every occasion and mood. And though we might be biased, we think you’re going to love these bottles just as much as we do!
2021 Rosé
Picked by Emma, wine club director, and Conor, winemaker.
So nice we picked it twice! You can’t go past our 2021 Rose as we come into spring. Emma loves its juicy fruit flavours and dry finish, and Conor deems it highly smashable. Bright and crisp with a cleansing acidity, Emma loves to pair hers with tapas, and Conor swears by a spicy seafood dish like prawn laksa as a match made in heaven. Something they both agree on? It’s the perfect drop for an afternoon in the sunshine with good company!
2021 Semillon
Picked by Mike, De Iuliis’s owner & head winemaker.
Mike reckons it’s high time for semillon to have its day in the sun, and our 2021 bottle is the perfect example of why. Vibrant, crisp and refreshing, it’s a serious winner on a warm day. Pairs wonderfully with fresh seafood, or if you’re feeling a little more low key, Mike’s personal so-weird-it-works favourite accompaniment? Chicken Twisties.
2021 Single Vineyard (Garden Vineyard) Semillon
Picked by Sean, cellar door manager.
Sean is another semillon lover, with his personal pick being our 2021 Single Vineyard expression. Crisp and refreshing, it’s fantastic paired with a simple cheese plate (hot tip is the Hunter Belle “Herb & Garlic Feta”) or stepped up with a meal of crumbed whiting, homemade chips and a salad with an Italian dressing. Sean’s favourite time to enjoy this bottle is outside after work, sipping as the sun goes down. But be warned: it can disappear just as quickly!
2019 Merlot
Picked by Shane, our jack of all trades.
Though spring is known for its warm days, there’ll still be some cool nights when you’ll want to reach for something red, and our 2019 merlot fits the bill to a tee. Shane loves how light and easy-drinking it is, and the fact it goes with so many foods! His pick for a tasty meal to match with this tasty wine is a homemade pizza with all the toppings.
2019 Estate Shiraz
Picked by Liz, cellar door.
Typical of the Hunter Valley, this shiraz is medium weighted and highly approachable – fruit driven with soft tannins and just a hint of spice. Liz reckons it’s always a crowd pleaser – perfect for shiraz lovers while pleasantly surprisingly those who would usually steer clear, as it isn’t as heavy as other ‘big reds’. Pour a glass while you’re preparing dinner and then top up and continue drinking with your meal. Her favourite pairing? A nice steak, followed by a cheese platter. Sounds good to us!
