The Story
Verdelho, as a variety, has an extensive history in the Hunter Valley. In the early 1820s, pioneering figures like James Busby and John Macarthur brought Verdelho from Europe. Initially, it was used mainly for fortified wines. These vines that produce this Estate Verdelho were planted on our Lovedale Road property in the early 90s.
The Wine
This Verdelho bursts with fresh, tropical aromas like lychee, passionfruit, and a hint of pineapple. It’s crisp on the palate, with vibrant fruit characteristics that mirror the nose with an added touch of lemon rose geranium. A touch of natural acidity keeps the finish clean and dry, making you want another sip and another…
The Vintage
Despite a compressed four-week harvest due to hot, dry weather, the 2025 vintage delivered outstanding quality.
A dry growing season allowed the vines to thrive, a perfect outcome for our family’s small-batch winemaking.
The Potential
To fully experience the vibrant and generous fruit flavours that define Verdelho, it is recommended to enjoy it while young. Although this wine can develop further complexity with a few years of cellaring, it is perfectly delicious to enjoy now.
The Match
Craving spicy Asian cuisine? This 2025 Estate Verdelho is your perfect match! Its bright acidity and refreshing fruit notes will cut through the richness and heat, making each bite sing. Pair it with a Malaysian seafood laksa, Kung Pao chicken, or Chongqing hotpot for a truly unforgettable culinary adventure.
