Tasting Notes
Region
Lovedale Road (LDR) Vineyard, Hunter Valley
The Story
In 2000, our Lovedale Road (LDR) vineyard began its life, with Merlot being one of the pioneering varieties planted on the former cattle grazing land that Joss and Anna De Iuliis had so thoughtfully regenerated. This Merlot, a particular favourite of Joss, is crafted by Mike – a son’s way of bringing his dad joy.
The Wine
Expect a palate bursting with vibrant red cherry and juicy strawberry. Earthy notes and fine tannins add intrigue, while a bright acidity maintains freshness and balance. A lively acidity threads through the wine, creating a sense of freshness and balance that leads to a smooth, delectable finish, perfectly suited for a meal.
The Vintage
Good rain throughout the growing season saw the vines flourish through a warm & dry extended harvest. The vintage began slowly, allowing the grapes to develop in pristine condition, achieving excellent sugar levels and a remarkable concentration of flavour.
The Potential
This wine is already drinking beautifully, offering a delightful experience from the first sip. However, for those seeking a truly captivating journey, its potential truly blossoms over the next 5 to 10 years. Cellaring this wine will unlock a fascinating evolution.
The Match
Pan-seared duck breast with a cherry reduction would be a delightful food pairing. The Merlot’s fruit brightness echoes the sweet and tart cherry reduction, while its earthy notes connect with the richness of the duck. The wine’s fine tannins are softened by the duck’s protein.
