Easter is nearly upon us and after not being able to join our loved ones last year, we think it’s only right to celebrate in style over the Easter Long Weekend. Whether you’re hosting a feast for the masses, opting for an intimate gathering, or not celebrating at all, there’ll always be a De Iuliis wine waiting for you. Not sure what wines to pair your food with? We’ve pulled together the ultimate Easter food and wine pairing guide, so you every-bunny can have a great time!
2019 Sparkling Chardonnay + Hot Cross Buns
Hot Cross Buns for brekky? Pair them with our Sparkling Chardonnay and an above average amount of melted butter to create what some might call the breakfast of champions. We tend to opt for traditional hot cross buns, as the fruit and yeast aromatics of the wine complement the bun’s spice and fruitiness.
2022 Semillon + Fish & Chips
The quintessential Good Friday meal. Our newest release semillon straight from vintage 2022 displays fresh, lifted citrus characters, a light palate and crisp, zesty acids. Wines with a good balance of acidity, like our Semillon, are made to cut through rich, fatty foods like fish (and batter), making it the perfect pairing.
2016 Aged Release Semillon + Baked Macadamia Crusted Fish
The soft, lanolin waxiness from a bit of bottle ageing pairs so perfectly with the soft, fleshy, herby fish. The macadamia crust gives a nice crunch and texture. The recipe we use again and again for Good Friday feasting can be found here from Australia’s Best Recipes.
2021 Estate Rosé + Easter Pavlova
It’s no secret that Rosé is our winemaker Conor’s favourite wine to make and to drink! So we went straight to the source for the best pairing for Easter feasting and without a doubt it was Easter Pavlova. Crunchy meringue, with silky cream, topped with strawberries and raspberries plays off the vibrant fruit characters of our 2021 Estate Rosé. Plus, the dessert will give you a sweet reprieve from all the chocolate decadence Easter brings.
2019 Steven Vineyard Shiraz + Dark Chocolate Easter Eggs
Who can say no to a wholesome dark chocolate egg from the Easter Bunny? We recommend opting for a classic dark chocolate with 70% to 100% cacao, paired with our 2019 Steven Shiraz. The wine’s fruity intensity and earthy characters make for a rich and mouth-filling combination that balances out the chocolates’ bitterness.
2018 Cabernet Sauvignon + Roast Lamb
Nothing says Easter like a leg of lamb with roasted vegetables. A full-bodied red like our Cab Sauv will take this meal to a whole new dimension. The secret? The tannin in the Cab and the fat levels found in lamb. The Cabernet’s fine and silky tannins cut through the lamb’s fat to create the ultimate marriage of flavour.
From the De Iullis family to yours, Happy Easter!
