Tasting Notes
The Story
This wine showcases the enduring family history of the Lovedale Road vineyard. Planted in 1991 by the family, the vines for this vintage thrived under the 2005 vintage conditions. Expect depth of flavour, a testament to the philosophy of quality over quantity that has guided Lovedale Road vineyard, and indeed the De Iuliis story, for over two decades.
The Wine
The wine’s deep ruby colour is a sign of its decades of ageing, while the aromas of blackcurrant and spice indicate its complexity. This Shiraz has a smooth, velvety texture on the palate with flavours of ripe berries, vanilla, and a hint of pepper. The well-integrated tannins give the wine a balanced structure and a long, satisfying finish.
The Vintage
The spring and early summer weather mirrored the excellent 2000 vintage, with mild days and unusually cool nights. This extended cool period likely slowed grape ripening, potentially leading to wines with higher acidity. The lack of heat spikes also helped retain vibrant fruit flavours, a hallmark of Hunter Valley wines.
The Potential
We’ve done the bottle ageing process for you in our climate-controlled cellar. It is drinking superbly right now, so why would you want to wait any longer?
The Match
Pair this delicate 2005 Lovedale Road Vineyard Shiraz with hard cheeses for a harmonious match. Whether enjoyed on its own or with a meal, this bottle is sure to delight the senses and leave a lasting impression.
