Tasting Notes
The Story
We were the first to plant Touriga Nacional on the Lovedale Road (LDR) family vineyard in 2010. Due to it’s low-yields, we only produce a Special Release Touriga Nacional in great vintages.
The Wine
Originating from Portugal, Tourigal Nacional is a full bodied high tannin red. It has fantastic concentration of blackberry and plums with perfumed potpourri aromatics that leap out of the glass.
The Vintage
2020 was the fourth year of drought in the Hunter bought tough growing conditions, but hot, dry weather is where Touriga thrives.
The Potential
WIth it’s rich, tannic and complexity Touriga Nacional has great ageing potential. We like to enjoy this wine on release and between 5-10 years of bottle ageing.
The Match
Touriga Nacional, in its boldness, needs rich foods with minimal spice and salt that will balance its bold tannins and bring out its lushness. Think lamb shoulder with a minted yogurt or beef stroganoff.
